Kwara to Create 16 More Parastatals
As part of efforts to energise the workings of the government with a view to meeting the ever increasing demands of the people, the Kwara State Government is poised to create 16 more Boards of Parastatals in the state.
The state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, disclosed this on Monday while receiving the Chairmen of Boards of Parastatals and Agencies of the state who paid him a visit at the Government House, Ilorin, the state capital.
Ahmed said the 16 new boards, with over 100 people as members, would be charged with the responsibilities of running various segments of government to ensure efficiency in service delivery.
According to the governor, this move is part of the determination by the current administration to tap from the abundant human resources and wealth of experience in the state.
On salaries of local government staff, Ahmed said the deductions from the monthly allocations to the various tiers of government by the Federal Government has ended in October, pointing out that no council would henceforth find it hard to pay its staff.
Ahmed, who advocated the review of federal allocations to states and local governments, said if the review was effected, it would allow states to meet most of their obligations to the people in terms of development projects that would touch the lives of ordinary citizens.
Ahmed emphasised that government would leave no stone unturned in its determination to make life better for the people, despite the meagre allocation from the Federation Account.
According to the governor: "Though compelling needs of the people far outweigh the available resources, government is resolute in the implementation of its programmes of impactive economic growth, human capital development and youth empowerment, strategic infrastructure and effective governance."
Earlier, the Chairman of the Chairmen of Board’s Forum, Chief Rex Olawoye, praised Ahmed for his people oriented programmes, saying that the administration has touched the lives of the people within a short period in office.
Olawoye urged the state government to look into some of the problems facing parastatals and agencies to create conducive working environment for staff and ensure service delivery.
