Kwara to Enrol Civil Servants in NHIS - Abdul Issa

Date: 2012-10-12

Kwara State government says it will enrol its workers into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Abdul Issa, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

"The civil servants in the state will be incorporated into the NHIS for them to have access to treatment of some major diseases at a low rate.

"It will be cheap for the civil servants because it is a Federal Government assisted scheme," he said.

Issa said that the state government was already operating its Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS) in various communities across the state.

The commissioner said that the state government embarked on the initiative under its modern structure strategy.

"The government has kick-started the policy to achieve all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Four and Five programmes.

"The policy thrust is to ensure the availability of 500-metre radius of health service delivery around the state," he said.
