Why LG's Delayed Salaries - KWSG

Date: 2012-10-09

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has attributed the delay in the payment of worker's salaries in some local government areas for the months of August and September to efforts to block loopholes in the wage bills of some of the local government councils.

The Governor gave this explanation today during a meeting with workers of Ilorin South Local Government Area at the Government House, Ilorin.

Alhaji Ahmed noted that so far, Baruten, Kaiama and Ilorin West local councils are found not to be affected by the circumstances. He averred that it was important that all tendencies that make corruption fester at the local government levels are blocked so that service delivery at the third tier of governance would be enhanced.

Governor Ahmed assured local government workers that the State Government does not intend to embrace the down-sizing option as a solution to the imbalance in the revenue base and expenditure profile of the local governments.

Speaking on behalf of the workers, Mallam Abdulkadir Ibrahim assured the Governor that the workers would now participate in the biometric exercise designed to get a clearer picture of the workforce at the local government level.

Mallam Ibrahim added that the workers would converge on the local government secretariat at Fufu for the biometric exercise.
