NLC, NBA flay Kwara judicial workers strike
The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Kwara State Chapter, Mr. Faruk Akanbi, and the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin chapter, Mr. Rafiu Balogun, have said the strike of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, Kwara State branch, is embarrassing.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, they appealed to the striking workers to immediately call off their strike to stop further embarrassment to the judiciary.
Akanbi said NLC was disturbed by the strike, adding that no matter the grouse the judicial workers had against the reinstated Chief Judge, Justice Raliat Elelu-Habeeb, the workers should obey the Supreme Court verdict, ordering the reinstatement of the sacked CJ.
He added that JUSUN had yet to notify NLC of its grievances.
Akanbi said, "Some of us are disturbed because we have been talking with the leadership of JSUN to find out what exactly is amiss. One would expect that even if the woman is not good to them, as they claimed, I think we should have allowed the judgment of the Supreme Court. The judicial arm of government should not rubbish the Supreme Court so that if there are other issues, we then can take them on and handle them on their own merit.
"They are affiliate of the NLC, but they have not formally written to the NLC to seek the support of the NLC. So, they do not have any formal support from the NLC for that action."
Balogun said the NBA was also worried at JUSUN's continued strike despite appeals by the NBA and the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of the state.
He said, "Honestly we are worried. Their action is despicable and we condemn it. This is not the right time for them to go on strike when the woman is to resume duties in line with the Supreme Court's decision."
