We won't give up on anti-graft war, says Buhari

Date: 2019-02-13

By Ahmed 'Lateef President Muhammadu Buhari has assured of his administration's commitment to sustain the ongoing fight against corruption in the country.

He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government at the centre won't give up in bringing to justice those, who abused trust while in public offices.

Buhari stated this on Monday at the APC presidential campaign rally for his re-election held at Metropolitan Square along Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin where he formally presented Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as Kwara State governorship candidate of the party.

The president said the fund retrieved from those who pilfered the treasury would be reinvested in the infrastructure.

He recalled that his government was predicated on three fundamental issues including security, economy and fighting corruption, saying he has focused tenaciously on them.

Buhari told the gathering of APC leaders, members and supporters that the people of North Eastern part of the country can attest to the government's performance in the area of security.

In Kwara State, he said the APC government has undertaken many projects and thanked the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for sensitising the people on what the government had done in the state.

The president urged the people of the state to re-elect him in Saturday's presidential election and vote APC candidates in subsequent polls.

"I want to thank you most sincerely for coming out in this great number and defy the heat of the day to stand and listen to us. I am very pleased with the performance of Minister of Information on what this administration is doing in respect to Kwara State.

"I assure you that the undertaking we made in 2015 on the three fundamental issues this party believed in, security, economy and fighting corruption. Wherever I go , I repeat myself on these issues so that I will remind you where this country was when we came in, where we are in now and what we are able to do with the resources available to us.

"The people of the North East as far as security is concerned, are biggest witnesses of our performance. We are able to achieve food security and people are living their respective lives.

"On fighting corruption, we are not going to give up. We are going to continue to get those who abused trust and take them before the law, take away what they have stolen and reinvest them in the infrastructure", Buhari said.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, said the campaign was a celebration of an end to one man show politics, declaring that "I cannot wait for Saturday for referendum to be carried out for Kwarans to celebrate their freedom".

He expressed confidence that Buhari would be re-elected in the poll and allayed fear over an alleged plot to rig using power of incumbency.

Oshiomole used the occasion to hand over the gubernatorial flag of the APC to Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, saying that with him, Kwara will be in good hand.

The APC chairman stated that the era of workers being owed was gone and assured that Abdulrazaq would ensure prompt payment of salaries and pensions in the state.

A national chieftain of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also spoke at the event, described the campaign as the celebration of the falling of the Berlin wall in Kwara, asking the people to vote en mass for Buhari and other candidates of the APC in the forthcoming polls.

In his remarks, the state APC governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, said his work was already cut out for him if elected as governor, adding that "we are ready for the task ahead of us".

The presidential campaign rally was attended by eminent leaders of the party including Ministers of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, his counterpart in the Ministry of Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahaman Danbazzau (rtd), former Governors of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Director General, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Rotimi Amaechi among others.
