Date: 2018-10-15

When 50-year- old transporter, Alhaji Usman Ayilara of Pakata fell ill sometimes in June, 2018, little did he know that it was the beginning of tortuous journey into the agonising world of kidney disease.

Ayilara, who hails from Pakata, Ubandawaki ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, is battling against an advanced stage of kidney problem.

In the hope to win the battle and survive, the father of six is desperate for help to get treatment to be completely healed of the ailment.

In the search for healing, Ayilara who sold his house at Oke-Fomo area of Ilorin and two cars have consequently been plunged into penury.

The transporter, who described his ordeal as excruciating, is passionately appealing to all well meaning Kwarans and Nigerians by extension for financial assistance to get a kidney transplant, which costs N7m.

Narrating his ordeal to our reporter on his sickbed, he said," I have been bedridden since July, 2018. The problem started when I fell ill and was initially treated for malaria.

"But, on 12th July while on a business trip to Kisi in Oyo State, I suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, when my condition defied treatment, I was brought down to my family in Ilorin.

"I was taken to the General Hospital, Ilorin, and was on admission for three weeks before I was discharged.

Thereafter, I became emaciated and had to visit private hospitals in Ilorin for treatment.

Ayilara was misdiagnosed of ulcer at a private hospital after undergoing series of medical tests.

"I was treated for ulcer and spent about three weeks on admission but my blood level continued to drop. It was at that point I was advised to go for comprehensive test at a diagnostic centre, where it was discovered that I had kidney disease."

The kidney disease patient was then referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and was admitted at the Renal Ward.

He has undergone dialysis twice; on the 5th and 11th of October at the cost of N105,000 for each session, which has left a big hole in his pocket.

Ayilara hence passionately appealed to Nigerians to come to his aid.

"I call on to Nigerians to help me. I can no longer work owing to my deteriorating health condition.

"I can't fend for my family anymore. I have six children; the eldest has just obtained National Certificate of Education (NCE) while the younger ones are still in secondary and primary schools.

The family resources have been drained on my treatment," he lamented. For anyone who wish to help, send your donation to Ayilara Usman Olusola, First Bank Plc, Acct no: 3103351958 and Access Bank Plc, acct no. 0020704371 or call 08033055334, 09021844610.
