Kwara guber aspirant pledges support for traditional rulers

Alhaji Shuaib Yaman, a
governorship aspirant of All Progressive Congress Party (APC) in Kwara
State, has pledged to ensure more roles, recognition and incentive for
traditional rulers as a way of promoting good governance.
Yaman made the pledge during a visit to the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Obaleye
Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, in his palace in Omu-Aran, headquarters of
Irepodun Local Government Area.
Yaman and its team were
in Omu-Aran as part of a familiarisation tour of Kwara South
Senatorial District of the state ahead of the party’s governorship
primaries.
NAN also reports the team had earlier paid homage to the Olosi of Osi,
Oba Solihu Adasofegbe and the Alofa of Iloffa, Oba Samuel Dada, in
Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas, respectively.
Yaman, who described the role of traditional rulers as crucial in any
democratic setting, noted that their wisdom and fatherly advices were
paramount in promoting government programmes and policies.
The APC aspirant said the desire to seek more knowledge, wisdom and
blessings on the challenges ahead prompted his decision to pay homage
to the traditional rulers, especially at the grassroot.
He praised the traditional rulers for being astute promoter and
vanguard of sustaining the nation's democratic system, promising to
accord more recognition to traditional institution if elected as
governor of the state.
"When things are not going on well particularly in a community setting
the traditional heads put heads together applies their wisdom and with
God on their side things will become normal and flourishing.
"Such is to show how important and relevant the roles of our
traditional rulers who are custodian of customs, tradition and
heritage, which is also applicable to governance.
"In other words our traditional rulers needed more recognition, roles
and incentive to perform creditably well in their administrative
assignments," he said.
Oba Adeoti, in his remarks praised Yaman for his foresight and prayed
for God’s divine guidance and blessings for him to succeed in his
chosen political career.
Earlier, Yaman in interactions with party members and leaders had
urged them to remain steadfast and dedicated in upholding the party’s
principles and ideas in order to ensure the desired victories.
He promised to give more priority attention to education, health,
human capital development and improved well-being through adequate,
shelter, accommodation and transportation if elected into office.
