Kwara Assembly Calls for Aggressive Mobilisation for Community Health Insurance Scheme

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called for aggressive mobilisation of residents of the state for the enrolment of community health insurance scheme in order to have access to quality healthcare delivery with payment of token as annual premium.

This was part of the resolutions of the house based on the issue of matter of general public importance, raised by the Chairman, House Committee on Health and Environment, and member representing Kaiama/ Kemanji/Wajebe Constituency, Hon. Ahmad Ibn Mohammed on the need for Kwarans to enroll for the recently launched State Health Insurance Scheme.

Mohammed, had while raising the matter, enumerated the categories of package under the scheme, which according to him, were indigenous, formal and informal packages.

The lawmaker disclosed that the registration exercise was free, while enrollees are only required to pay token as premium annually, to enable them have unfettered access to treatment of every day aliments.

Most of the members who spoke on the matter on the floor of the house eulogised the foresight of the state government in initiating the scheme and called for close monitoring, to ensure the success of the scheme.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Matthew Okedare, who presided over sitting of the house, said that, the call for aggressive mobilisation of the residents was based on the need to ensure massive registration for the scheme.

The lawmaker said the development also became expedient so as to enable all and sundry, have access to affordable and qualitative health care delivery in the state.

He added that the house has directed the state Ministry of Information and Communications to embark on aggressive mobilisation and sensitisation of people on the significance of the exercise and why they should enroll for the scheme.

He also enjoined tradition rulers opinion and community leaders in the state, to embark on aggressive mobilization of their people, to enroll for the scheme, whose registration would soon kick off across the state.
