Three Held for Defrauding Employer of N12m
An Ilorin chief magistrate Court has remanded three persons at the federal medium security prison, Mandala Ilorin, for allegedly defrauding their employer of the sum of N 12,657,110.
The accused, Dauda Bakare,25 of 11, Ahmadu Road, Patigi, Bacita, Sulyman Aremu, 24 of Eiyenkorin, Ilorin and Oyedeji Adedayo, 28 of 4 Nawarudeen Street off IGS Ilorin, were said to have falsified the account of their boss in order to defraud him of the said amount.
They appeared before the court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft by servant and falsification of account.
The accused were arrested following a complaint at the State Intelligence Bureau, Nigeria Police State Headquarters, Ilorin by Adeoti Kehinde of 274, Odota area Ilorin, who is the Managing Director of Kenny Success (NIG) Limited, Ilorin that the accused criminally conspired to steal his money.
The complainant stated further that when he noticed that his business was going down, he contacted one Kehinde Oshagbemi and Co, a chartered accountant of 158, Ibrahim Taiwo road Ilorin, to verify the causes of the shortage.
According to him, in the findings, it was discovered that the staff of the company, Sulyman Aremu (second accused) and Oyedeji (third accused) had connived with Dauda Bakare (first accused) who is the supplier of maize to the company to falsify his company's account record to dupe him of N12, 657,110, which they shared among themselves.
The complainant submitted further that the outcome of company's account auditing indicated some dates when goods which were not supplied were paid for, where some supplies were inflated.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation revealed that the accused conspired to dupe the man of his hard earned money and thereby committed the offences which contradict sections 97, 289 and 264 of penal code.
The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Asua objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody in Ilorin pending the outcome of investigation.
The defense counsel, A.H. Sulu Gambari, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused pending the trial. He submitted that the accused would not run away and provide reliable sureties to ensure their attendance in court at every adjourned date.
The trial magistrate, Mrs Folashade Lawal refused the plea of the defense and ordered that the accused be remanded at Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala, Ilorin until September 18 when the case will come up for mention.
