Date: 2018-04-18

Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore on Tuesday declared that the recent bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State has further re-echoed the need for every Nigerian to be conscious and concerned about security.

Omisore while lamenting the number of casualties, which included policemen and other innocent Nigerians, noted that the incident, though condemnable, had further confirmed that Nigerians must "at all times be ready to help the security agencies and the government in riding the country of crimes and those with criminal intentions."

The former Deputy Governor while commiserating with Offa monarch, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, the people of the town and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Abubakar Idris over the robbery incident, pointed out that "there is urgent need for all hands to be on the desk towards ensuring that the security agencies get to the root cause of the robbery."

Omisore spoke through a statement sent to DAILY POST through his Media Office on Tuesday, where he also described the incident as not only barbaric but "a major threat to the long existing peace in the town."

He said, "The recent bank robbery in Offa has further emphasized the need for every Nigerian to be seriously concerned and at all times be ready to help the security agencies and the government in riding the country of crimes and those with criminal intentions.

"Let me seize this opportunity to commiserate with the good people of Offa and the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuoye on the bloody robbery at some banks in the town during which many people including policemen were shot dead by the armed robbers that invaded the town.

"I am also at this point commiserating with the Inspector General of Police on the death of some of his men while trying to resist the armed robbers and protect the law abiding citizens."

He pointed out that there was the urgent need for all hands to be on the deck towards ensuring that the security agencies got to the root cause of the robbery, which he described as barbaric and major threat to the long existing peace in the town

He stressed that the security agencies should in addition to their efforts at ensuring the safety of lives intensify efforts at riding the entire country of criminals.

While lauding the police and other security agencies for the arrest of some suspects in connection with the bloody robbery and killings of the innocent victims of the sad incident, Omisore prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and speedy recovery of all those injured during the incident.
