Date: 2018-03-28

iPlans are underway to create medical hub in Kwara State and make the State a choice destination to access quality healthcare service delivery.

To achieve this, the government is to establish Teaching Hospital for the Kwara State University.

The State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed disclosed these while receiving the new Management Board of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, led by its Chairman, Olorogun Otega Emerhor at the Government House, Ilorin.

He noted that with the UITH, State General Hospital, Ilorin and other health facilities within Ilorin axis, the State is strategically positioned to become a medical hub.

According to him, "Nigerians spend huge amount of money seeking medical care abroad which can be accessed in the country."

'More funds' The Governor, who admitted that the health sector is underfunded, called for deployment of more funds and optimal allocation of resources for improved health care service delivery in Nigeria.

Governor Ahmed identified health sector as a key component of human capital development which needs adequate funding that commensurate with the growing population.

He also charged members of the Board to bring their experiences to bear in carrying out their assignments.

Governor Ahmed promised continuous support and further extension of various developmental projects of the present administration to UITH.

The Board Chairman UITH, Olorogun Otega Emerhor had disclosed that the team was at the Government House to pay homage to the Governor whom he described as a critical stakeholder in UITH.

He commended Governor Ahmed for his remarkable achievements made by his administration so far, particularly on the on-going expansion of Zango-Oyun-UITH-Oke-Ose road.

Emerhor appealed to the Governor to intervene in the encroachment of the Hospital's land as well water challenges facing the hospital.
