'CBN's anchor borrowers' scheme has improved food production'

Date: 2018-01-06

The Regional Head, Abuja and North, First City Monument Bank, Mr. Lukman Mustapha, has said that the anchor borrowers' scheme of the Central Bank of Nigeria has revolutionised agriculture in the country.

He stated that it had increased food production and reduced importation, adding that many Nigerians were now more comfortable eating locally produced, processed and manufactured food items, especially rice.

He also said that the scheme had boosted socioeconomic, industrial and commercial activities in the country.

Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of Sobi FM, spoke during a media briefing with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday.

He said no fewer than 100,000 farmers in Kebbi State had been put into the banking sector, while many of them had received Certificates of Occupancy for their farmlands.
