We'll ensure full implementation of Disability Law, says Hon. Aisha

The lawmaker representing Ilorin East Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Aisha Abodunrin Ibrahim has pledged to work with the Executive to ensure that the Disability Amendment Bill recently signed into law by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is implemented as soon as possible.

Ibrahim, who sponsored the Bill explained that the law has taken care of rights, privileges of the physically challenged people and further provides that henceforth they must be considered in government policies.

She said this at the weekend while reacting to the governor's accent of the Bill, adding that the law implementation and operation would ensure that the affected people have input in socio-economic determinant of the state.

The legislator who lamented the plights of the physically challenged in the society disclosed that government would soon constitute a board that would be saddled with the responsibility of taking care of the affected people and liasing with the government.

Ibrahim who is the Chairman House Committee on Commerce, Cooperatives and Women Affairs further explained that those who would constitute the board would be carefully selected based on their expertise, exposure and their ability to know what rights to demand from government.

According to her, "With the law in operation, henceforth any building that will be constructed and other facilities that will be put in place by the government, the physically challenged people must be taken care of".

"The law ensures that they have equal rights and opportunity just like their able-bodied counterparts. They will be allowed to participate actively in political, social, culture, economic, sporting activities and so on".

She, however thanked Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his interest in making lives more meaningful for the physically challenged people.

The lawmaker further pledged the 8th Assembly's commitment and dedication to Kwarans wellbeing.
