Kwara assembly calls for teachers commission

The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the federal government to establish s National Teachers Service Commission to make payment of teachers salaries first line charge.

The assembly also reiterated it support for local government autonomy through the ongoing constitutional amendment.

The call was made by the Deputy Speaker, Mathew Okedare, while addressing members of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), who were on a peaceful protest, to the assembly

Okedare, who described education as the bedrock of any sustainable development, disclosed that the Speaker of the House, Ali Ahmad, was spear heading efforts at proffering enduring solutions to the lingering problem in the ongoing constitutional amendment.

He also assured the teachers that the assembly would not spare any effort at addressing issues impeding prompt payment of teachers salaries, to further enhance their performance.

Okedare added that the hierarchy of the assembly plans to meet with the state Governor, Abdul Fatah Ahmed, on how to resolve arrears of promotion of teachers in the state
