FG Urged To Resuscitate Technical Schools To Reduce Unemployment

Date: 2017-11-20

The federal government has been advised to urgently resuscitate all the grounded technical schools across the country in order to enhance the desired skill acquisition among youths to further fast-track nation-building process.

The Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, (MAN), Kwara/Kogi chapter, Dr. Kamorudeen Ibitoye Yusuf, stated this on Monday while delivering lecture at the 8th edition of the annual entrepreneurial week organized by the Centre for Entrepreneurship of the Kwara State University, Malete.

Dr. Yusuf who is also the Chief Executive Officer of KAM Industries Nigeria Limited raised alarm over the non-performance of technical schools in Nigeria adding that "No nation can develop without adequate attention to technical education. This is the only way our quest to drive technological advancement can be actualized."

Speaking on the theme; "Entrepreneurship Intelligence: Concept, Start Up and Scale Up", the business magnate suggested that "If Nigeria must match-up with demands of globalization, there is need for government at all levels to wake up and do the needful by resuscitating the teaching of science and technological skills right from secondary school level."

According to him, "A cursory look at developed countries of the world, their policies and programmes are channeled towards building leaders from youthful age by giving them the right and appropriate education as tools for fighting poverty. I was awarded honourary Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria due to my numerous contributions to the use of chemicals in the manufacturing processes of steel and metals and with this, I have been advocating strongly for improvement of science education especially in the areas of Engineering and Technology.

"As you all know that youths constitute larger percentage of our population and if they are not well empowered, they will end up becoming agents of destruction in our community. With this the unique entrepreneurial skill in them can be discovered and build upon in order to become employers of labour rather than job seekers."

He therefore donated the sum of N 2 million to the Kwara State University to further advance the course of promoting entrepreneurial skills among students and pledged continue to support the university in its future programmes.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah commended Dr. Yusuf for his numerous industrial revolutions towards eradicating unemployment among youths.

The VC however presented award of excellence on the guest lecturer and established and annual lecture in his honour in recognition of KAM Industries as a leading indigenous manufacturing hub in Nigeria.
