Ilorin Muslim Community performs funeral l prayer in abstential for a civil servant killed by lightening in Kwara

Thousands of llorin Muslim community from all walks of life on Saturday converged at the Ilorin Muslim Cementary to observed a funeral prayer in abstential for a 47 year old Civil servant, Salami Adekunle killed by Lightening recently in Kwara

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN recalls that the deceased was killed by Lightening during a downpour at the premises of the state College of Education Oro on 20 Seotember.

The Corpse was rejected for burial at the llorin Muslim cementary following alleged refusal by the relatives of the deceased to allow dead body undergo prayer and washing in lslamic way.

Almost a month after the burial of the deceased at Okeose Christian cementary thousands of llorin Muslim community performed funeral prayer in abstential for the civil servant killed by lightening.

The prayer which lasted less than ten minutes was led by the former GrandKahadj in Kwara, Justice Salihu Olohuntoyin-Mohamned.

The former GrandKhadi while speaking with NAN after the prayer said the action was permissible under lslamic injections

He said since there were testimonies that the victim died as a muslim there is need to perform funeral prayer for him inspite the non availability of the corpse.

The Coordinator of llorin Muslims cementary and a Lecturer of lslamic studies at the University of llorin. Dr Abubakar Aliagan said the prayer was necessary since the deceased died as a Muslim.

He said effort to exhume the corpse of the late Salami through a court injunction proved abortive as nobody was able to identify his grave at Okeose Christian cementary

"We had performed the funeral prayer without the corpse being exhumed which is purely allowed under lslamic law " he said.

"The llorin Muslim community took the second option of performing funeral prayer in abstential for our late brother following the claims of guides not to identify the grave of Salami " Aliagan added

Among eminent personalities at the funeral prayer for late Salami Adekunle were the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Tertuary Education, Alhaji Jubril Haruna, the Deputy Provost of the state College of Education Oro, Alhaji Lawal Yusuf

The late Salami Adekunle, who hailed from llesha in Osun before his death by lightening was a staff at the Registry Department of Kwara College of Education, Oro. (NAN)
