Kwara Govt Nominated For Human Rights Award

A Non-governmental Organization, the Constitutional Rights Awareness and Liberty Initiative has nominated the Kwara State government for its 2016 Human Rights-Friendly State of the Year award (North Central Zone).

The Chairman of the organization, Adeola Austin Oyinlade, who disclosed this in a release, noted that the State government will be presented with the award at this year's National Human Rights Conference, which holds on Wednesday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island Lagos.

The conference, themed, "Respect for human Rights; a Panacea for National Peace and Development" will be chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mahmud Mohammed and attended by eminent Nigerians, officials of the United Nations and the United States Consulate General.

According to Mr. Adeola, the Kwara State government was found worthy for the award based on opinions of the public, the press and other criteria set by the Awards Committee.

He added that the organization also recognizes the efforts of the State government in providing local solutions to meet Nigeria's development challenges including governance, respect for human rights, peace building and sustainable development.

The Chairman further disclosed that the first ever simplified Human Rights application in Pidgin and English language for android phone users in Nigeria will be unveiled at the conference.
