Ilorin to host Nigeria - Tanzania AYC match
Ilorin will host the return leg match of the 2013 African Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier between Nigeria and Tanzania on 11 August, an official said on Sunday in Abuja.
Sam Audu, the Media Officer of the Nigeria’s U-20 team, also known as the Flying Eagles, gave the hint in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Audu said the Kwara Government had accepted to host the game with assurances of warm reception and provision of all necessary facilities.
"The State Sports Commissioner, Mr Kayode Towoju, has already conveyed their approval to us, and he has described the development as a honour to the state.
"He also said they (Kwara) are very delighted and honoured to stage the match, and promised a most befitting time for the national team," Audu said.
NAN reports that Nigeria’s Flying Eagles would tackle their Tanzania counterparts in the first leg of the qualifier, scheduled for July 29 in Dar es Salaam.
The return leg match will hold at the Ilorin Township Stadium two weeks later.
According to Audu, the Flying Eagles will proceed to Ilorin on arrival from Tanzania on Monday 30 July.
The Flying Eagles had on July 15 in Ilorin played a goalless draw in a warm-up game against home side, and Nigerian Premier League club side, Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC.
The U-20 team has ABS FC goalkeeper, Jonah Usman, as part of the squad which will depart Lagos Monday afternoon for Rwanda.
In Rwanda, they will play a warm-up game on Tuesday before they head to Tanzania for the AYC qualifier.
The team had in Minna on Saturday beaten another Nigerian Premier League side, Kaduna United 1-0, in another friendly match.
