A sachet of pure water now costs N10 in Ilorin
A sachet of pure water now costs N10 in Ilorin against N5, while a bag now costs N100 as against N65, N70.
The president, Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP), Chairman, Prince Adeleke Adewumi, said that the development was as a result of a recertification exercise by the supervising agency.
He explained that the recertification exercise was organized by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), saying that all producers of table water were mandated on the exercise.
Adewumi said that the exercise was aimed at sanitizing the industry across the country, adding that any table water producer who did not partake in the exercise would not be certified and would not have the licence for production.
The president said that non-compliance to the new price by producers in the state would attract sanctions.
According to him, any member caught violating the rules and regulations of the association would be brought to book.
He explained further that the sudden hike in the price of the commodity should be linked with inflation in the country and devaluation of the naira.
"The sudden hike in the price of table water was basically as a result of the economic down turn in the country which precipitated an upsurge in the price of raw materials for the production of table water.
Adewumi said that increase in the price of raw materials and epileptic power supply also contributed to the problem confronting the industries across the country.
He explained further that the price of a sachet of pure water had remained N5 since 1995, in spite of incessant inflation in the price of raw materials and cost of production.
