THE Kwara Council of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has congratulated the state Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed over the victory of the state's U-17 girls at the North Central Handball championship. The Council also extended it's congratulatory message to the state's Sports Council for tutoring the girls to win the championship.

The Council in a statement jointly signed by its chairman Alhaji Abdulwaheed Bibire and Secretary Olayinka Owolewa, on Monday in Ilorin urged the sports council to sustain the success. It would be recalled that the State U – 17 Girls won the North Central Handball Championship in Abuja at the weekend.

The team's Coach, lsiaka Atanda, was also voted the best Coach of the championship while one of the players ldowu Abdulrasak, scored 49 goals to emerged the highest goal scorer of the championship. The statement urged the state governor to continue to give priority to sports as usual as such is capable of taking the youths off the street or crime.

The Council reminded that the governor's support to sports in the state is already yielding yet another result as Kwara United is edging closer to a return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), leading it's group with six games to go. The statement also commended the ministry of Sports and Youth Development for creating an enabling environment for Sports development in the state.
