KWHA tasks state government on value system restoration

Date: 2016-05-13

The Kwara State Governor Alh. Abdulfatah Ahmed has been urged to set up a hall of fame standing Committee that will examine meaningful contributions of Kwarans who should be conferred with honours to serve as impetus to others.

This is part of the resolutions arising from a Matter of General Public Importance raised by the leader of the House Alh. Hassan Oyeleke, on the need to restore universal core value system of honesty, integrity, hard work, knowledge and fear of God as a way of addressing moral bankruptcy permeating the Nigerian society.

Reading the resolutions of the House the Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare said recognition of good conduct and excellent performance, were key towards socio-economic and political emancipation of any given society.

The House in its resolution said the Committee should be made up of men and women of high integrity, honour, achievement, and of impeccable character to ensure the realisation of the intended purpose.

The Leader of the House Hon.Hassan Oyeleke had while raising the Matter of General Public Importance noted with displeasure that the lust for material wealth by Nigerians had eroded the nation's core value system of integrity, honesty, sacrifice, knowledge, hardwork and fear of God.

The Committee of hall of fame according to him if established would ensure official recognition and promote high moral value in the State.

Most members who contributed said the House had demonstrated that it had concern for the future of the people of the State and emphasised the need for Nigerians to return to the old value system to enhance their well-being.

Meanwhile the House has called on the People of the State to stop dumping refuse and building materials on drainages to avoid flooding in the State.

The House made the call in its resolution while considering a Matter of General Public Importance raised by a member representing Kaima/Kemanji/Wajibe Hon Ahmed Ibn Mohammed on the dumping of refuse in drainages in Ilorin metropolis.

The House also urged the State Ministry of Environment and Forestry to continue its sensitisation on the dangers inherent in the act to forestall any erosion related disaster in the State.

The House equally enjoined the State Ministry of Works and Transport to continue to maintain the roads and drainages constructed by the State Government as at when due to ensure that they stand the test of time.
