KWHA asks Ministry of Health on hospitals proper monitoring

The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed the State Ministry of Health to extend its monitoring activity to private hospitals in the State, to ensure qualitative healthcare delivery service.

This is part of the resolutions of the legislature after considering the report of the House Committee on Health,Environment and Forestry over a motion on "Improving Healthcare Service in Kawara State" raised by a member representing Kaima/Kemanji/Wajibe constituency Hon Ahmed ibn Mohammed.

The Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare who presided over the sitting said the monitoring of both public and private hospitals became necessary, to avoid unnecessary death through nonchalant attitude of health personnel as well as check the trend of quackery in the State.

The House equally urged the State Government to as a matter of priority, procure and allocate operational vehicles for effective monitoring of both Public and Private Hospitals and staff alike.

The Law Makers while commending the State Government for its recent recruitment of different categories of health workers into the State Civil Service, enjoined it to as a matter of urgency increase and promptly release the monthly subvention to different categories of Hospitals in the State for operational efficiency.

It equally eulogised the State Ministry of Health for its prompt response to the yearning of the people of the State, by releasing two different phone numbers to members of the public to lodge any complain against any health worker in the State to check the ugly trend.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ahmed Ibn Mohammed had while presenting his report before the House established among other things that there was nonchalant attitude among health workers, inadequate manpower in the Health sector, lack of functional and enough operational vehicles for effective monitoring and gross inadequate and irregular monthly subvention to various Hospitals for operational efficiency in the State.

The House also at its sitting called on the Kwara State Government to immortalise the 1994 African Footballer of the Year Rashidi Yekini, to acknowledge his enormous contributions to sports development in Nigeria.

This followed a Matter of General Public Importance raised by the House Leader Hon Hassan Oyeleke on the 4th anniversary of the demise of the soccer legend.

Other members who spoke on the sterling qualities of Rashidi Yekini noted that the dangling Rashidi Yekini had projected the image of the country positively to the outside world through a round leather game during his lifetime.
