Dstv Basketball League: Falcons Of Ilorin Thrash Customs In Lagos
Kwara Falcons Basketball Club of Ilorin on Friday continued their impressive run in the ongoing DStv Basketball League as they whitewashed Customs of Lagos, 78-57 in their Atlantic Conference Week five match.
Customs took the lead in the first quarter recording a 23-21 over Falcons but could not sustain the momentum in which they started the game but fell 29-42 in the second quarter.
The Falcons seeing Customs weak approach to the game engineered a forceful performance to further compound Customs woes as they took the third quarter 56-45. The fourth quarter saw Falcons dominating game proceedings as their opponents were unable to challenge their every surge.
Falcons took the final quarter recording a 78-57 over Customs but not doing it in style with several counter dunks, reverse dunks, alley oops fast break dunks to the dismay the of the Lagos fans. Customs forward player, Emmanuel Balogun , told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that it was the team's worst performance in the current outings.
"We played below expectations. We did not give our best and did not match up at all the departsments of the game. "We are disappointed about our performance but we hope to turn things around in our next game on Saturday," Balogun said.
Also Customs coach Scot Nnaji said his team played below their level and all efforts to change the circumstance proved impossible as Falcons had a strong grip of the game. "We played below expectations, we had some injury problems with our key players and it affected our performance. We hope to get a better result on Saturday," Nnaji said.
Meanwhile, Coach Olufunmi Aderemi of the Falcons team said that the team was focused on doing well in the conference as "it has all it takes to beat every opponent". "We are a good team and we are gaining more confidence with every win and having held on to lead the conference from the beginning of the season we appreciate our achievement.
"We hope to continue this way until we play the playoffs which is a tougher competition," Aderemi said NAN reports that action continues at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium on Saturday for the second leg of the encounter. (NAN)
