World Water Day: KWSG to test run Eastern Reservoir Booster Station today
As part of efforts towards ensuring availability of potable water supply to all nook and crannies of the state, the Kwara state government will today test run the Booster Station of the Eastern Reservoir, Tanke.
Making this revelation to journalists yesterday, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Barrister Abdulrazak Akorede assured that "by this time tomorrow (today), God willing, they will do the test run of the Eastern Booster station and by the time they do that we will be able to get enough water, storage and distribute."
The commissioner who spoke to journalists after a tour of some water projects in the state pointed out that, "as you can see the reticulation is still ongoing, we have a few more kilometers to cover, by the time they finish that, we have another booster station, Western Reservoir, by the time the two booster stations are commissioned, of course, the four tanks at Oke-Oyi, Adewole, Ogidi and the one at Tanke that we have just gone. Once they get enough water we will be able to distribute to the people."
On the time frame for availability of water in the metropolis, Barrister Akorede explained that, "I featured on air on the 28th of December last year promising that on or before February 2016 at least there would be enough water but unfortunately the Western Reservoir was vandalized.
"We however thank God that his excellency, Dr Abdulfatai Ahmed has ordered a replacement of all the vandalized properties. When that is done we will do the commission and there will be enough water for our people."
Speaking on the theme of this year's World Water Day; Water and Jobs, the commissioner revealed that the State government through the ministry is already treading the path of using water to provide jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the state. He expressed optimism that when the booster stations are up and running the there will be much water to go round.
The commissioner who stressed the present administration's commitment to the provision of potable water to residents of the state revealed that the state governor, Dr. AbdulFatah Ahmed, had declared a state of emergency on water supply in the state and presently, more than 25 communities are benefiting from water tankers every day.
He therefore, urged residents of the state to support the present administration in its efforts to take the state to greater heights.
Earlier, the Kwara state chapter of Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria led by its acting chairman, Alhaji Oba A. Lawal had paid a courtesy call on the commissioner. According to Lawal, the visit was to commemorate this year's World Water Day and also to extend a hand of fellowship to the Ministry.
