KWHA passes Waste Mgt Agency Bill for second reading
The Kwara State waste Management Agency bill yesterday scaled through the second reading at the floor of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
The bill which was an executive bill, sent to the House by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed aims at improving revenue generation in the state. The motion for the second reading of the bill was moved by the House Leader, Hassan Oyeleke.
Oyeleke in his submission urged the House to pass the bill to further ensure tidy environment and increase revenue of the state.
Ebun Owolabi of Ekiti Constituency and Kamal Fagbemi of Oke-Ogun Constituency shared similar view with the House Leader and called for the passage of the bill. However, Ahmed Ibn-Mohammed of Kaima-Wajibe Constituency), Abdullahi Taiwo of Owode Onire Constituency) and Jimoh Akani of Share OkeOde Constituency called for rejection of the bill.
They were of the opinion that the passage of the bill will be duplication of duty since the Kwara Environmental protection Agency was currently performing the function of the agency. The Clerk of the House, Mr. Simon Okedare later read the bill for the second time.
The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad while committing the bill to the House Committee on Health and Environment directed the committee to organize a public hearing on the bill and report to the House before March 22.
Also during yesterday's plenary of the House, secret cult and secret societies prohibition bill passed the first reading.
The motion for the first reading of the bill which was an executive bill sent by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was moved by the House Leader, Hassan Oyeleke. The Speaker directed the House Committee on rules and Business to further work on the bill.
