Date: 2016-01-25

The MTN Foundation in association with Hon. Funke Adedoyin had donated N1 million worth of goods to Inioluwa Orphanage Home in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some of the items donated to the orphanage include: one double-door refrigerator, 15 mattresses and pillows, four standing fans, some bags of rice and semolina.

Others are eight cartons of peak powder milk, eight cartons of sugar, vegetable oil, insecticide and mosquito nets.

NAN also reports that MTN Foundation, a subsidiary of MTN Nigeria Limited, is into the execution of humanitarian projects with direct impact on the less privileged in the society nationwide.

It also reports that Hon. Adedoyin is a member of the House of Representatives representing Oke-Ero, Ekiti, Ifelodun and Irepodun Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

Kikelomo Kumoye, the MTN Trade Marketing Consultant in Kwara State, while handing over the items, said the gesture was part of the organisation's corporate social responsibility to the people, especially at the grassroots.

Kumoye said the organisation, through the Foundation, had executed similar humanitarian projects in many communities across the country. Kumoye said the gesture was also a way of raising the living standards of the less-endowed persons in the society.

She recalled that recently, Irish Project was executed by the MTN Foundation in conjunction with the Kwara State Government to better the lots of some Nigerians.

The MTN boss, who thanked Adedoyin for nominating the orphanage, expressed the organisation's readiness to continue to align with her people-oriented programmes and policies for the people of her constituency.

She also used the opportunity to apologise to the numerous MTN mobile network customers on the difficulties being encountered in the ongoing SIM re-validation exercise.

In her remarks, Adedoyin promised to continue to execute projects with immense values to the living standard of the people and to impact positively on their socio-economic wellbeing.

She said: "When MTN informed me of their objective and for a nomination, I quickly made up my mind that politics apart, this particular donation is for the downtrodden and the less-privileged among the people of the constituency.

"That is how we came about giving this donation from MTN Foundation to Inioluwa Motherless Babies' Home as part of our contribution to ensure their wellbeing and up-keep."

The Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, said the council would not hesitate to support every laudable initiative that would touch the lives of the people.

Bunmi Durowara, the Coordinator of Inioluwa Orphanage, thanked the donor and Adedoyin for the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the items.

Durowara said the orphanage, which started with three children in 2011, had now grown into accommodating dozens of children, adding that some were currently in higher institutions.
