'Free surgeries show Kwara's resolve for health care'
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed flagged off Free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery Project with a call on Parents not to leave their children born with life-deforming conditions to their fate, but lend them a helping hand.
Ahmed who spoke at the event organised by the state government in collaboration with Rotary Club International, Alliance for Smiles and Michael Omotosho Foundation at the General Hospital, Ilorin said the partnership is a clear indication of the premium his government placed on health and welfare of the people.
He commended partners, sponsors and volunteers for their service to humanity and contribution towards reducing health inequalities and promoting health and well-being through their selfless service.
The Governor enjoined other governmental and non-governmental organisations to emulate the goodwill demonstrated by the organisations and partner with the state in the area of healthcare delivery to ensure a healthy population.
Ahmed called on Kwarans to take advantage of various ongoing healthcare initiatives in the state designed to bring quality health within five hundred metres of every resident.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Atolagbe Alege who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Ayo Yusuf said the government would continue to support and partner bodies in providing quality healthcare delivery to the people.
Earlier, the Chairperson, Local Organisation Committee, Mrs. Jumoke Bamigboye commended the state government for providing conducive environment for the medical mission to hold in the state and dispelled insinuation that Cleft lip is a death sentence.
