Sunshine Stars Signs Oladunjoye
Relegated Kwara United will be without their captain, Isiaka Oladuntoye as they campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next term. He has pitched tent with another premier League campaigner, Sunshine Stars.
Kwara United, were demoted to the second tier of the Nigeria football on the last day of last season as their 2-0 victory over FC Ifeanyi Ubah was unable to save them from relegation.
Last week when John Obuh was announced as the new handler of Kwara United, his first word was that he would make sure that Oladuntoye stays with the club in their quest to return to the premier League next term. But all his efforts to persuade Oladuntoye who captained Kaduna United to win the 2010 Federation Cup were shattered as the 24-year-old has pencilled a two-year deal with Sunshine Stars.
Sunshine Stars under new gaffer, Samson Unuanel entered Ilorin on Tuesday evening, and Oladuntoye was seen coming out of the bus with other players.
Oladuntoye, 24, exclusively revealed to that he had to leave Kwara United as the offer from Sunshine Stars was mouthwatering.
"Although, I have promised Kwara United fans, the new chairman and even the new coach that I would stay, but I had another thought when Unuanel called me to come and sign for Sunshine Stars.
"As I'm speaking with you now, I have not told Kwara United that I've left them, and I'm sure they would be disappointed when they hear that I will not be with them in the National League.
"Sunshine Stars made me to understand that I cannot play in the National League, and that's the reason I had to sign for them as you know that my contract with Kwara United has expired and I wish them good luck in the National League," Oladuntoye said .
New Sunshine Stars' technical adviser, Samson Unuanel added that Oladuntoye would be a 'tonic' in the heart of defence for the club in next season's Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
He was my best defender when I was at Kwara United, and immediately Sunshine Stars gave me the job, I called him and I told him not to tell anyone for him to come and sign as he would be a tonic for my team," Unuanel explained.
Hearing that Isiaka Oladuntoye has penned a deal with Sunshine Stars, newly appointed Kwara United coach, John Obuh was frustrated, but wished him a successful stay in Akure.
"I would have loved to have him play for me, but there's nothing anyone can do as his mind is now with Sunshine Stars, and I wish him good luck," he said.
Isiaka Oladuntoye is now expected to face serious competition at Sunshine Stars in the central defence from Kunle Odunlami, and Stephen Eze who is currently in Rwanda with the Super Eagles team B.
