The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa'ad, Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar and Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari are among dignitaries expected to attend the 40th anniversary of the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Sa'adu Kawu Haliru.

The Etsu Nupe is expected to serve as father of the day while the Emir of Ilorin will be the special guest of honour.

The chairman, central steering committee of the ceremony and Walin Lafiagi, Alhaji Saidu Issa, made this known at a press conference in Ilorin yesterday.

Issa, whose address was read by a former Head of Service in the state, Alhaji AbdulRahman Shehu, said six prominent Nigerians would be conferred with traditional titles during the celebration.

He said the event will also feature homage paying by Hakimis and village heads; and horse riding.(durbar).

"There will be competitions like quiz and football. The football competition started over a month ago and will be concluded before the 4th of December and a cup tagged, Emir's cup, will be won. Also, there is going to be a competition on the Qur'an. This includes memorization and recitation of the Qur'an. Cultural shows will feature artists night, including traditional dances from across Nupeland, that is Kwara, Niger and Kogi States", Isa said.

He described the reign of emir as peaceful, eventful and development oriented.

He also called on the government to give traditional rulers in the country more roles to play.
