The Kwara State government on Tuesday approved the promotion of 1050 civil servants in the state as part of efforts to boost their morale.

Speaking during a press conference in Ilorin, Chairman, state Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Saliman Adelodun Ibrahim, said 1050 passed the promotion examination out of 1279 participants that sat.

Ibrahim said despite the dwindling economic situation in the state there was never a time the government delayed promotion of workers. He noted that the promotion was coming at a time when some states had not promoted their workers for past five years.

The chairman said that since 2009, when he was appointed, the commission has been operating without external influence.

"One of our responsibilities in the civil service commission is to promote civil servants as at when due. We also invoke discipline on them, especially whenever anyone is found wanting. There has not been any year that civil servants in Kwara State were not promoted, even in the difficult years", he said.

He added: "Some states are surprised that we are getting it right here despite the austerity. We will soon give them their letters of promotion. And for the record, nobody has asked us why we are doing this when there is no money, because we believe the right thing should be done at the right time".

He said the commission also modernized its operational system to conform with best global practices.

Ibrahim, who commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, for giving the commission approval for the promotion, called on the beneficiaries to justify their elevation.
