NMA offers free medical services to 2,500
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday in Malete, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara, performed medical treatment and surgery to 2,500 indigent in the area.
The Deputy Chairman of Kwara NMA branch, Dr Olawepo Kunle told newsmen in Ilorin that this was part of the corporate social responsibility programmes done to mark the National Executive Council Meeting of the association that commenced on August 25.
Kunle disclosed that a total of 120 people were surgically operated on whose ailment ranged from hernia while surgery was performed on a total of 60 indigents.
According to him, hundreds of individuals would get free consultation, glasses for any eye problem, drugs and surgery in different types of ailments. He explained that some complicated surgeries were immediately transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
The deputy chairman said it was the tradition of the NMA to visit rural communities and help them with free medical attention as they were the most vulnerable without frequent medication.
Dr Mubashir Usman, of the UITH noted that the national executive council meeting was a national event for the association.
Mr AbdulRahman Sulaiman, a patient who was operated on for hernia told newsmen that the operation was successfully carried out, and expressed his gratitude to the members of the NMA for their humanitarian services.
