Assembly advises Kwara on new parks
The Kwara State House of Assembly has enjoined the state government to as a matter of urgency either provide or make it possible for the construction of trailer parks through Public Private Partnership arrangement in the state to enhance vehicular movement.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, had on June 24 constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the hardships being experienced by motorists and commuters in the state as a result of indiscriminate parking of trucks along Asa Dam Road in Ilorin, the state capital.
Ali had said that the work of the committee was important as it was charged with the responsibility of proffering an enduring solution to the gridlock and other transportation problems.
The House on Tuesday in its resolutions, following a presentation of the report of the committee, also said the new parks would strengthen the Internally Generated Revenue of the state government.
A matter of general importance was raised by a member representing Irepodun Constituency, Mr. Mathew Babaoye, on the indiscriminate parking of trucks along Asa Dam Road.
The Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Mr. Hassan Oyeleke, while presenting the report, observed that trucks belonging to a popular private haulage company were indiscriminately parking on the road, thereby obstructing the free flow of traffic.
The committee also reported that the company was ready to partner the Kwara State Government to provide a trailer park under the State Public-Private Partnership Bureau Law 2015.
The House of Assembly in its sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mathew Okedare, said the construction of trailer parks would address the problem.
