Kwara GAMJI to establish leadership centre in Ilorin

Date: 2015-01-21

As part of efforts to proffer solution to the leadership ineptitude bedeviling the country, the Gamji club in Kwara State said it had resolved to establish a centre for leadership in Ilorin, the state capital.

The centre, according to the President-General Kwara Gamji Association, Dr Abubakar Laro Ibrahim, would train future leaders with a view to inculcating in them  visionary and exemplary leadership qualities of the late Premier of Old Northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Similarly, arrangement had been concluded by the association to inaugurate Gamji clubs across tertiary institutions and some selected secondary schools in Kwara and Kogi States.

Ibrahim, in his opening remark at the Gamji Day of the Kwara State branch of Gamji Members’ Association of Nigeria (GAMA) held at Banquet Hall, Government House Ilorin, said the association decided to float clubs in schools to impact late Premier’s leadership traits and qualities on younger generation.

He appealed to the state government to assist the association by providing land and infrastructures for the smooth take-off of the centre.

The GAMJI President-General regretted that the legacies of the late Sardauna of Sokoto had been tossed aside by political leaders in the country while corruption and indiscipline have become the hallmark of the society.

“Presently, Nigeria is now a shadow of herself in spite of the fact it is blessed with abundance of natural resources-land area, mineral, animal, water, forest resources and population size.

“However, Nigeria is today suffering from lack of capable and effective leadership in all spheres. Corruption and indiscipline and a lack of accountability are the hallmark of our society today. Nigeria is now in dire need of good leadership for it to overcome its current social, political and economic crises. Such leader must possess moral authority and esteemed values of integrity, honesty and must be ready to undergo hardship and suffer deprivation on behalf of the poor masses.

“In our effort at searching for such a good leader, GAMJi had resolved to establish a GAMJI centre for leadership here in Ilorin to train future leaders, so as to inculcate the visionary and exemplary leadership qualities of Sardauna in our younger generation.

“We are using this medium to call on Kwara State Government and other well meaning Nigerians to support us in the areas of provisions of land and infrastructures for the take-off of the centre. Similarly, GAMJI club had concluded arrangement to inaugurate GAMJI clubs in all tertiary institutions and some selected secondary schools in Kwara and Kogi States to impact Sardauna’s leadership traits and qualities”, he said.

On the terrorists conquering some parts of the north, GAMJI boss described it as uncalled for and urged the Federal Government to reclaim the affected areas.

“At this juncture, we in the GAMJI, wish to call on the Federal Government to learn from Sarduana’s firm position by not conceding an inch of Nigeria territory to insurgent. We therefore call on the Federal Government to reclaim all the lost territories in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States without further delay before the commencement of the next month’s elections so that Nigerians in those area areas would not be unnecessarily disenfranchised”.
