FG, states urged to tackle unemployment

Date: 2015-01-06

Founder of Al-Hikmah University Chief Raimi Oladimeji yesterday urged federal and state governments to step up efforts at addressing the unemployment challenge.

He lamented that many graduates roam the streets without jobs, saying governments at all levels should create businesses and companies that could accommodate them.

Oladimeji spoke in Ilorin while briefing newsmen on the institution's first Founder's Day celebration to mark the 10 years of establishment of the university.

Apart from establishing businesses, he also urged the federal government to provide enabling environment for potential industrialists.

He said conducive environment would enable the business sector to expand thereby creating job opportunities for the unemployed youths.

Oladimeji noted that many hitherto viable businesses had folded up because dishonesty and fraud-related practices had taken centre-stage.

He made reference to Kwara State where he said many businesses and companies including Kwara Textile Mill, Tate and Lyle, Kwara furniture, had become extinct.
