Unilorin Has Been chosen by CADFP to Host African diaspora Scholar
The University of Ilorin has been chosen by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship programme to host an African Diaspora scholar, Prof. I.S.Y. Ajiferuke, of the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Ontario, Canada. to work on a collaborative research project with academic staff members of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Ilorin. The research project is expected to boost the academic staff's research and grant writing capacity.
The collaboration, which is sequel to an application made by the Department to the Carnegie Foundation, is a programme managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in conjunction with Quinnipiac University, which chairs the Advisory Council, and is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, United States of America (USA).
The research collaboration, entitled "Graduate Teaching, Training and Mentoring in Statistical Methods for Library and Information Science" is scheduled to commence on January 15, 2015 and end on April 14, 2015, in the Department of Library and Information Science, and it will be led by Prof. L. O. Aina of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin and Prof. Ajiferuke.
The Canadian Professor is one of the 60 Carnegie African Diaspora Fellows that will travel to Africa to conduct joint projects submitted by host universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree and Mastersdegree in Statistics, Masters degree in Library and Information Science and Ph.D. in Information Science.
While at the University of Ilorin, Prof. Ajiferuke is expected to also assist doctoral students and lecturers in the Department and the Faculty to improve research and grant writing capacity as well as lead series of seminars in the Faculty.
The Head of the Department, Library and Information Science, University of Ilorin, Dr. A. O. Issa, expressed the appreciation of the Department to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyuAmbali, for supporting the application.
