Unilorin admits 12,650 students
The University of Ilorin in Kwara State has matriculated 12,650 new intakes including seven deaf for the 2014/2015 academic session.
The students represent 11 per cent of over 114, 000 that applied to the university.
Daily Trust reports that the figure of the matriculating students rose sharply compared to 8, 591 students admitted last year.
Despite the increase, over 100,000 students who applied to the university failed to secure admission, according to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali.
Professor Ambali urged the new students to do what is right and refrain from what is wrong to guarantee their continued stay on campus.
He said that 80 of the new intakes are international students, explaining that the University of Ilorin was witnessing an influx of applicants because of its rating as the best in the country and 20th in Africa.
He urged the students to make the best use of the opportunity given to them, adding, "Arise and fly high by doing what is right and shunning what is wrong."
Ambali charged the students to adhere strictly to the university's rules and regulations, saying exam malpractice is a capital sin the students could commit in the university.
