SOME House of Assembly aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have called on the leadership of the party to conduct a fresh primary to select the party’s candidates for 2015 polls in the state.

According to the aspirants,  the party’s primaries expected to hold in November 29 at Pacific Hotels for Ilorin West Central (Magajin Geri Constituency) and Yebumot Hotels for Ilorin North West (Ajikobi Alanamu Constituency) did not hold as stipulated.

Addressing journalists at a press conference  held in Ilorin, Kwara State capital,  on Friday,  one of the aggrieved aspirants, Alhaji Fasasi Olokonla, urged leaders of the party to disregard names submitted to them as the party’s candidates because they were handpicked by some chieftains of the party.

The aspirants alleged that the  primaries could not hold as  planned because of alleged attempt by some leaders of the party in Ilorin West to manipulate the  delegates list in favour of some aspirants.

“Some leaders of the party in the area, in connivance with a party chieftain, organised a kangaroo primaries at the residence of one of the chieftains while delegates were waiting at the two official designated venues,” one of them alleged.

The aspirants also warned that failure to correct the injustice will spell doom for  the  party  during the general election.

 A petition,  according to them, had been filed   and sent to the appeal panel set up by the party to attend to complaints arising from the primaries and called for “justice to be done to avoid future occurrence.”
