Kwara c'ttee receives 69 requests for LCDAs
The Kwara State Committee for the creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) has received 69 requests from stakeholders and communities.
The requests, Daily Trust gathered, were the total number of memoranda submitted to the committee after the deadline for submission on Friday, last week.
The committee had penultimate Monday requested relevant stakeholders and communities to submit memos for the proposed creation of the LCDAs.
The committee headed by a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, was inaugurated by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, to among others, "identify all basic parameters contingent to the creation of Local Government Council Development Areas using variables peculiar to the Kwara environment while borrowing relevant experiences from other states that have similar structures."
It is also expected to consider all factors related to viability; internally generated revenue, population, land area, etc.
The committee, according to a member who spoke on condition of anonymity, would however begin consideration of the memos on Thursday.
An attempt was made for the creation of LCDAs in 2002 in the twilight of late Governor Mohammed Lawal administration. The LGs created at that time were immediately scrapped by the new administration in 2003, over lack of resources to run the councils. The state currently has 16 local government areas.
