Ahmed to declare for second term tomorrow
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is to declare his intention for re-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) tomorrow.
Ahmed, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011, defected to APC in October last year alongside his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki.
Before now, there was uncertainty over his re-election bid following the emergence of other aspirants in the APC.
However, the coast was cleared for him when Saraki, who is the APC leader in the state, endorsed Ahmed for second term, a development that virtually shut out other aspirants.
Daily Trust gathered that out of over 240 aspirants contesting the APC tickets at various levels, only Ahmed has indicated interest in the governorship election.
The governor would formally declare at the state Metropolitan Square with APC governors and leaders of the party, including its national chairman, Chief John Oyegun, expected at the declaration.
Also expected at the declaration are the four APC presidential hopefuls Mohammadu Buhari, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state.
