'Over 200 aspirants vying for 34 PDP tickets in Kwara'

Date: 2014-10-10

No less than 200 aspirants have indicated interest in vying for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) tickets ahead of the 2015 elections in Kwara State, chairman of the party, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, has disclosed.

The development, he said, is an indication of the strength of the PDP in Kwara.

Oyedepo spoke in Offa, Kwara State, while on a tour with the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, to the southern part of the state.

He said: "When 200 people are chasing 34 positions, it shows the strength of your party. After all in this state, there is Labour Party, there is APGA and there are so many others too. Why are they not rushing to APGA? It is because your party is agile and strong.

"Even in APC, you dare not come out that you want to be anything unless you are anointed by their leader. We don't need any anointing from any leader in our party; people would decide who would be their governor," he said.

The minister said PDP is a pace-setter for true democracy, adding that the party has array of aspirants who are tested and trusted to transform the economy of the state.

Sulaiman who noted that Kwara PDP is one big family, assured that the party would not be partisan in the selection of candidates for the forthcoming election.

"PDP is a pace-setter for true democracy. The minister standing before you is a product of true democracy; the minister standing before you was collectively selected by Kwara State PDP stakeholders," he said.
