APC Presidential Ticket: Bukola Saraki To Make Position Known Next Week

Date: 2014-10-06

Former Kwara State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said in Ilorin yesterday that his position about running for the party's presidential ticket would be made known to the public next week.

Acknowledging the myriad of calls for him to join the APC presidential race, the ex-governor stated that he was overwhelmed by the support he had received from the people even when he was yet to make known his plan.

Despite the uncertainty pervading the political scene, Saraki, if the calls for him materializes, would be joining other political heavyweights such as erstwhile Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), who intimated of his plan to formally declare for the presidential race on Wednesday.

Addressing newsmen at his Iloffa residence in Ilorin, Saraki, who is currently representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said in spite of a number of politicians seeking the APC's presidential ticket, the party will not disintegrate, adding that others would rally round whoever emerges as the party's flag-bearer.

He said the birth of the APC as a strongest opposition in the country, was as a result of collective sacrifice by all stakeholders.

The legislator noted that the 2015 poll is about Nigeria, which requires everyone, devoid of party affiliations, to contribute.

Saraki, who admitted that the country was not moving in the right direction, said personal ambition by politicians cannot be equated with the oneness of the nation.

The former Governor blamed the ruling party for striving to undermine the APC over what becomes of the party after its presidential primary, saying that all aspirants have resolved to work together for the progress of the party whichever way electing the party's flag-bearer goes.
