Why I want to establish university in my community - Ahman Patigi
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Patigi said his intention to establish a university in his community is to build young and vibrant youth who will take the country to the next level of development.
He said "I have decided to build the university in order to produce professionals in all areas of human endeavour so that they could assist in the growth and development of the community and the country at large."
Ahman-Patigi, who spoke with The Herald at Patigi during at the weekend, described his proposed university as a place for the future where the next set of leadership of the country would be groomed.
The lawmaker, who represents Moro/Edu/Patigi Federal Constituency, said the best brain from the world would be assembled in the proposed university to come and assist in developing the community and the nation at large.
He said that Faculty of Agriculture would be established to attend to numerous problems of farmers in the community and the country as a whole.
"The plan of the proposed university has been submitted to the National University Commission (NUC). Two hundred hectares of land was given free of charge by the community. This institution would have 14 kilometer road network and 28 kilometers walkways.
"This has come to assist the government in ensuring that very disciplined and vibrant younger generations are produced.
The lawmaker also disclosed his plan to establish primary and secondary schools in the area, noting that some the students graduated from the primary and secondary schools would later be products of the proposed university.
He said work has commenced on the proposed primary school, adding that it would be commissioned by January next year.
Ahman-Patigi added that competent teachers would be engaged with attractive salaries and incentives to enable him achieve his goals.
While describing education as the best legacy, he said a well cultured and educated youth would not take part in any anti-social behaviour.
"This is our contribution to mould those children who will contribute their quota to this community and the country at large. I thank God for giving me this vision to establish such an institution.
"I inherit service to humanity from my family. That is why I can't afford to fail the people", he disclosed.
