A Magistrate's Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has remanded five policemen over the alleged killing of one Wahabi Amada.

The suspects include; Inspector Ubangha Ikpi, Corporal Aliyu Waheed, Corporal Aba Immanuel, Corporal Awobaiku Oladimeji and Corporal Daudu Rizama.

The men are all attached to the police special anti-robbery squad in Ilorin.

The prosecutor, Inspector Peter Wodi, told the court that on June 22, one Wahabi Amada (now deceased), while returning to his village (Eiyenkorin) from Ilorin, stopped by the roadside to ease himself.

He added that after he had finished easing himself, he was accosted by a police patrol team, which asked him to open the boot of his vehicle.

"A scuffle ensued when one of the policemen attempted to collect the car keys from him. The disagreement between them attracted passersby and youth in the area. And in an attempt to disperse the crowd, the policemen fired and killed Wahabi Amada. Three other people who were injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

The suspects confessed that their action was unprofessional and unbecoming of police officers," the prosecutor said.

n his ruling, Magistrate Shuaib Salihu ordered that the accused persons be remanded at Mandala prison yard and adjourned the case to October 6.
