Date: 2014-09-24

Two relatives -Mallam Yinusa Akeju and Mallam Gani Owo from Ologbondoroko and Bofara’s compounds of Adeta Ilorin in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State- have died after drinking a locally-made concoction, simply known as ‘agbo’.

Our correspondent gathered on Tuesday that the two relatives and Mallam Orire Saka had gone to the compound of Mallam Orire Azeez but did not see Azeez. They were said to have demanded from Azeez’s daughter, identified as Rashhedat, the drink which was prepared by her father. The girl was said to have given the drink to the young men.

It was also gathered that after they had taken the concoction, Akeju and Owo later started complaining of abdominal pains.

Akeju, who was said to be a worker of Lubcon Nigeria Limited, was said to have died at about 12midnight on Tuesday while his colleague, who was a vulcanizer reportedly died later in the day.

Saka was found on the floor having breathing difficulties. He was afterwards rushed to the Ilorin General Hospital for medical treatment.

Our correspondent gathered that he was currently responding to treatment.

Members of the families of the victims declined comments, saying they were grief stricken.

It was gathered that the deceased, who left behind wives, children and aged parents, had been buried at the Muslim cemetery in Ilorin on Tuesday according to Islamic rites.
