Eid Kabir Sallah: Emir of Ilorin cancels Fulani/Bororo festival

Date: 2014-09-09

Ahead of the forthcoming Eid-Kabir Sallah celebration, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on Tuesday approved the cancellation of the Fulani/Bororo cultural festival which holds annually at his palace square.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Saliu Woru Mohammed, stressing that the cancellation will be effective especially in the headquarters of the five local government areas in the emirate as well as Kwara state at large.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari also expressed regret over any inconveniences the cancellation may cause participants, organisers of the festival as well as the entire community.

He further maintained that the admonition was directed at the congregation of the Fulani and Bororo leaders including the Meyatti Allah who gathered and pleaded with him to assist them in the maintenance of peaceful co-existence with their host communities in the state.

The statement therefore urged members of the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement and character contrary to the decision before, during and after the Sallah celebration to the law enforcement agents for appropriate action.
