OPINION: Abuja politicians and their Politics of Calumny. By Abdulraheem Salman

Date: 2014-08-21

Even though, I have decided to remain mute and never break my silence now until the needs arise maybe in about few months from now, I will continue to sensitize my kinsmen about the numerous happenings around them as orchestrated by alien politicians.

It is a good venture to engage in "Media War" most especially with people whose major interest is to take the advantage of the peace loving people of Kwara State particularly indigenes of Ilorin Emirate due to their high sense of tolerance and perseverance.

While I also nod my head in shame for the self acclaimed leader of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Hajia Muinat Shagaya, I make bold to inform her of the heart-breaking surprise(s) that awaits her even before the 2015 general elections owing to her display of "Calumny Politics" which will neither take her nor us anywhere.

It is saddening that Hajia Shagaya whose political status could not be traced beyond 11 months ago when Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed defected to the All Progressive Party (APC) is desperately running so fast to outsmart the real/grassroot politicians who have nurtured the party to its current status since its formation in 1998.

If really politics is all about collective interest and mass participation as well as putting smiles on the faces of the highest number of people, then, whose interest is the new entrant and her lobby group representing by playing Kwara politics from far away Abuja?

This is nothing but an act of mortgaging and frustrating the enthusiasm as well as the driving force(s) which has made some people remain firm in the PDP rejecting juicy offers from the Bukola Saraki-led structure in the state with the hope that freedom is forthcoming for the people of the state.

It also amazing that one of Hajia Muinat's 'hired writers' Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, could also join a capitalist to cover her many atrocities of misrepresenting the interests of innocent Kwarans who are damn eager of effecting positive change in the state through the ballots in few months time.

Without mincing words, even the deaf and the blinds are aware that Hajia Muinat's is the least qualified personality to emerge as anybody's political leader in the Ilorin Emirate talk more of Kwara State as a whole. I am also considerate of the fact that you will be paid for every sentence you put across to defend your "Pen Hirer" but Mr. Abdullahi, I am very certain that your conscience will keep bothering you.

While we are busy preaching unity of purpose vis-a-vis the adoption general interest policies as a way of moving the party forward contrary to the "Totalitarian" arrangement as we have it under a business mogul turned politician, Mr. Abdullahi was busy chanting Hajia Muinat's praises as a way of finding an end-meets. Kudos, keep it up!

Playing Kwara Politics from the Nigeria's capital city, Abuja, will take you to nowhere but I am glad to inform you that the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has commenced fresh registration for your calibre to avail you of participating in the 2015 electioneering process. So come home and get registered or be disenfranchise.

Faces that we know in Kwara Politics

Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem: He was the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin who hails from Ilorin. A Professor of Literary English, Abdulraheem demonstrated high sense of scholarship and administrative capacity to stabilise academic activities in the fastest growing institution which recently ranked number One in the league of Nigerian Universities.

On the completion of his tenure, Prof. Abdulraheem's wealth experience was quickly hired by the Kwara state government to stabilise the Kwara State Polytechnic and later for the establishment of the Kwara State University, Malete.

He was also one of the front runners in the 2011 governorship tussle in Kwara State and was later made the Director-General of the campaign team that won election for Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on the platform of PDP.

As the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Prof. Oba has not only facilitated job opportunities for teeming youths but he has also ensured that many families within the Ilorin Emirate and beyond have senses of hope of finding productivity in their children/wards.

He is indeed the sole sustainer of the hope of the hopeless in the labour market among Kwarans.

Senator Ruqayyat Gbemisola Saraki (GRS): She is not only a daughter of the soil but she has been much responsible to the yearnings and requests of the people of Kwara State in all ramifications without looking back or waiting for any commendation. Prior to the period of her gubernatorial ambition on the platform of the defunct Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, (ACPN), GRS has served Kwarans in many capacities.

She represented Ilorin West/Asa in the Federal House of Representatives and later as a Distinguished Senator that represented Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. Her political influence was not only felt but her sense of humour and generosity through students' scholarship, women empowerment as well as infrastructural development was really appreciated by all.

Senator Gbemisola is not only humble, but also focused and strongly committed to the struggle of "freedom for Kwara" even with her personal resources. The result of the 2011 governorship election clear showed that GRS has over 70,000 genuine followers as at then (barely four years ago).

Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN) MDB: He is the son of the late Wali of Ilorin, Justice Babatunde Belgore (rtd) who was until his death one of the forthright elders of the land.

The Senior Lawyer's entrance into Kwara Politics really re-shaped the 2011 events when he stood firm to challenge the PDP's candidate now Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN) and became the second runner-up in the memorable contest. He also decamped to the PDP immediately the APC structure was handed over to Senator Bukola Saraki by the party's leadership.

Senator Sulaiman Ajadi: He is the current Special Adviser to the President on Legislative Matters. He is a seasoned politician and grassroot mobilizer. He is loved by not only his immediate community (Babanloma) or Igbominas but loved by entire Kwarans who knew when he was a Distinguished Senator for the Kwara South Senatorial District.

Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq: He is the son of Lawyer AGF Abdulrazaq (SAN) who founded Ilorin College Ilorin now Government High School, Ilorin. Abdulrahman whose elder brother, Dr. Alimi Abdulrazaq, was the pioneer PDP governorship candidate in the 1999 election, has become a big fish in Kwara Politics due to his courageous outing for the governorship bid during the last general election on the platform Congress for Progressive Change, (CPC). He is one of the important stakeholders to be reckon with not only in Ilorin-West but in Kwara State as a whole.

Other politicians are Arch. Lola Ashiru, Chief Theophilous Bamigboye, Chief John Dara and Alhaji L A K Jimoh.

It is therefore saddening for anyone to feel that she can just come on board and take the glories of the efforts and sweat of these innocent souls and for another person to be so comfortable to serve as her 'Praise Singer'. It is quite unfortunate that at this crucial period when we all desire total freedom, someone is offering himself to be used and paid stipend.

Please, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, while responding to this write-up from Abuja as you have always indicated, remember that I'm not here to join any issue with you because you are an alien to Kwara Politics but try to collect your Madam's profile and educate the whole world about her political intervention and political investments on Kwarans prior to this period.

All I could remember about her was that when the likes of Late Gen. AbdulKareem Adisa where busy facilitating scholarship/bursary for Kwarans, 'Madam Beauty' was busy doling out her monies to City People Magazine before she was later caught-up by age.

My fellow Kwarans, it is high time to realise that this people are not committed to the project at hand but rather concern about building another empire in an attempt to mortgage the our future. No wonder Mr Sheriff Shagaya showed-off himself at the Ilorin Central Yidi praying ground the last Eid-Fitr Sallah celebration.

We can never plot to crumble Saraki's political empire and now dogmatically plan to build Shagaya's empire.

Who is fooling who? Kwarans, beware of political fraudsters!!!
