Don't lure youths into thuggery, Ahmed charges politicians

Date: 2014-07-18

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has advised politicians to shun all forms of violence and refrain from luring youths into thuggery.

Governor Ahmed, who gave the advice at the Ansarul Islam Society Ramadan Lecture held at Ansarul Islam Primary School, Okekere, Ilorin, stressed that politicians must realise that power radiates only from God and should therefore not be treated as a do or die affair. He noted that youths must not be sent on voyage of thuggery from which they may never recover or return.

"We must avoid using our youths for thuggery and other forms of violence. Our youths need jobs and a future. Let us give them jobs not guns", the governor said.

Ahmed also emphasised that those holding political offices must use their position for the benefit of the people, especially the poor.

According to him, "all power emanates from and belongs to Allah who gives it to whom He pleases so that you can uplift the people. We must make life better for the majority of the people, whether they voted for us or not".

The Governor reminded Muslims that the rich should emphatize with the poor through wealth redistribution for poverty reduction as God blessed the rich and the privileged so that the less fortunate could be helped.

In his lecture, the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sofiyyulah Kamaldeen Al-Addabiy urged Muslims to allow the remembrance of the day of judgement to influence their actions by doing good, always.

Sheikh Al-Addabiy, who stressed that whatever man does would live after him, noted that everyman would be rewarded accordingly on the day of judgement.

The Mufti advised Muslims to always fear Allah and obey those in authorities in line with the dictates of Quran.

Sheikh Al-Adabiyyi who prayed Allah to continue to guide and guard Governor Ahmed in piloting the affairs of the State solicited the support of the Governor towards the smooth take off of the proposed Muhammad Kamaldeen University.
