Ex-minister empowers youth in telecom business
Former Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has empowered 100 youths in Kwara State in the communication businesses.
The empowerment programme which was done in collaboration with Globacom service provider, was to engage the youths in profitable ventures by taking them out of joblessness.
Under the scheme, the benefiting youth who were selected across all wards in Ilorin West and some parts of Ilorin South and East, were empowered with special lines to make calls for N7.2k and charge customers for N20 per minute.
Speaking with journalists at a special training by Globacom which preceded distribution of the empowerment items to the beneficiaries held at Ubandawaki ward of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ward chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Alagbede, described the former minister's gesture as laudable.
He said the 100 beneficiaries were picked from all the wards that constitute Ilorin West and some parts of Ilorin East and South to ensure even distribution. One of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Oba Kara noted that the business is viable as they could make N960 profit from N500 recharge card in a day without committing any initial capital into the business.
