14 arraigned for Kwara street brawl
Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with Monday's street brawl in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in which three people were reportedly killed.
Commissioner of Police Ambrose Aisabor gave their names as Rasheed Isiaka, Lukman Adesegiri, Abdulazeez Yahaya, Lukman Ibrahim, Bolaji Ologele, Tunde Ologele, Abdulrafiu Shehu and Abdulganiyu Issah.
Others are Tunde Alakia, Abdulraheem Raji, Tajudeen Ahmed, Aromokala Issa, Opeyemi Yunusa and Abdul ganiyu Abdulazeez.
One waist band charm, one blood stained cutlass, one saw and seven motorcycles were recovered.
The commissioner warned politicians to stop fan embers of violence through their actions and to desist from giving hand-outs to their supporters.
Instead, he urged such politicians to empower the people to fend for themselves.
"The political situation in the state has been very peaceful, occasionally we see political thugs disturbing one way or the other.
"Let me use this medium to advise politicians in Kwara State, including those residing in the state and those outside, that politics is a game of choice. "You don't force people and you don't intimidate people.
"Instead of coming to Ilorin occasionally to distribute money to jobless youth, I will expect politicians to set up cottage industries, factories where these teaming youths could be gainfully employed.
"I am also using this medium to warn them that apart from the president, vice president, governors and their deputies who have immunity, other Nigerians have no immunity.
So no Nigerian is above the law, anybody found wanting we will deal with you according to the law."
