15 Arraigned In Court Over Attack On Baraje's Residence
No fewer than 15 suspected hoodlums who allegedly attacked the residence of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Alhaji Kawu Baraje have been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects were said to have on April 23, 2014 criminally conspired, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, attempted to attack Baraje at his residence along Eruda/Baboko area, Ilorin.
They were charged to the court for criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit culpable homicide, disturbance of public peace and mischief.
The offences contravene Sections 97, 229, 113 and 327 of Penal Code Law.
Men of the state police command had arrested the accused at their hideout in Isale-Koko area, Ilorin, following a tip-off .
The accused are Rasheed Tijani, 21; Akeem Tijani, 23; Taiye Kareem, 20; Suleman Waheed, 20; Abubakar Mohammed, 35; Mohammed Sode, 39; Moshood Shaibu, 25 and Salihu Isiaka.
Others are Sule Usman, 60; Ahmed Saka, 25; Ibrahim Ahmed, 24; Abubakar Rasheed, 32; Abubakar Isiaka, 23; Abdulraheem Mumini, 19 and Abdulrasaq Alawiye, 25.
Police said that when a search was conducted on the accused, a dane gun, battle axe, hammer, criminal charms, two wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, a pack of rizler, two Nigerian voters card and a vigilante group identity card was found on them.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) the accused and others at large were the hoodlums that armed themselves with dangerous weapons, terrorising innocent citizens and attacked Kawu Baraje’s house.
The prosecutor, Corporal Lukman Ayenigba informed the court that investigation into the matter was yet to be completed.
He objected to the bail of the accused.
and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.
The defence counsel, Barr. Bola Olokoba prayed the court to admit the accused to bail pending the outcome of police investigation.
The trial magistrate, Mrs. Bosede Adeyemo admitted the accused to bail each at the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in the same amount.
The case was adjourned to May 5 for further mention.
